I’ve been working with the RSPB for the last 3 years as part of their Field Membership Fundraising team in West Wales, and post Covid I spent virtually all of my time at the RSPB Ynys Hir Reserve in Mid Wales. I took part in various surveys at the reserve including one for dormice which have successfully started nesting again in some woodland areas on the reserve.
I also volunteer for the Cardigan Bay SAC performing Dolphin and Porpoise watches at my local beach, Mwnt. This is where my nature passion lies, cetaceans and the marine environment of which there is a huge variety off the coast of Wales. This past year I’ve enjoyed a couple of boat surveys out into the Celtic Deep where we encountered Common Dolphin, Minke Whale and Harbour Porpoise. I often visit Strumble Head in Pembrokeshire and have been fortunate enough to see mega pods of Common Dolphin along with Rissos Dolphin there.
Prior to working with the RSPB I’ve a wealth of management and logistical experience in my working life in very diverse areas, from Steel manufacture to licensed merchandise supplying some of the largest names on the high street.
I will bring this knowledge and passion to bear in my new role where we’re looking at lines to stock in the visitor centre shop to enhance the products already on offer and increase the income needed to help fund our vital conservation work.
I’m looking forward to working in this amazing organisation and meeting all our fantastic staff and volunteers over the coming months.
