Welcoming Molly Johns: Championing Legacy Giving and Fundraising for Welsh Wildlife

Meet Molly Johns, WTSWW's new Legacy Development and Fundraising Officer! Molly is here to support fundraising efforts and help supporters leave lasting legacies to secure a future for our precious Welsh wildlife.

Hi everyone, I’m Molly, the new Legacy Development and Fundraising Officer for The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. My role will involve supporting individuals and community groups in their fundraising journeys. I will also be there to enable supporters of our work to leave a gift to us in their Will and guide them through this process.

My interest in the outdoors and preserving our green spaces comes from growing up in south Wales, and spending the majority of my time in the sea, surrounded by people who are enthusiastic about protecting our oceans and rivers from pollution. I am a graduate from the University of Sussex, with a bachelor’s degree in Law with Business and Management. Inspired by my upbringing, in my third year I studied Environmental Law.

I hoped to increase my understanding of how legislation can work to protect the environment, and its impact and influence on the way businesses operate. This made me appreciative of just how vital activism and grassroots projects are, in implementing the necessary change from the front line.

I have a particular interest in the conversations surrounding; intersectional climate justice, nature-based solutions to climate change, the extent of legal repercussions when companies ignore environmental protections and recognising our right to enjoy nature and a healthy environment as a human right. I am looking forward to working closely with people who have similar passions, to contribute to nature restoration and conservation in Wales.

I am continuously inspired by how passionate people are about protecting our environment, and am eager to support those of you who are interested in leaving a lasting legacy for Welsh wildlife, so that future generations get to enjoy our outdoor spaces and nature, just as we have been fortunate to do so. I hope that in this role, I get to meet more likeminded people, all working towards a common goal, and I am keen to see what other people, from all different walks of life, can teach me.
