Brecknock Reserves Update:
In June we hosted a recording day at Ystradfawr Nature Reserve assisted by BIS Communications Officer Katherine. The morning was spent recording and showing people round the reserve. In the afternoon Pauline and Dr Norman Lowe (Brecknock Moth Group) educated and entertained students from the local primary school by taking them on a flower hunt.
In June we also hosted the Botany Group and BSBI members for a plant recording event focussing on Craig y Rhiwarth. In typical botany style it took us about 2 hours to walk across Allt Rhongyr to Craig y Rhiwarth as there was so much of interest on the way.
On Craig y Rhiwarth SSSI we roamed across the Wildlife Trust land (south) and that owned by Pwllcoediog (north). It is on the Pwll coediog side that the rare whitebeam trees reside. We were also excited to re-discover where the Lily of the Valley was growing hidden on the wooded cliff. Natural Resource Wales (NRW) is currently undertaking some calcareous grassland monitoring and we look forward to hearing the results.
