Fungal Walk at Buckland Hill
About the event
Learn to identify fungi as we walk around Buckland Hill woodland and common with Shelly and Mike Stroud.
Join Mark Spirito for an early morning walk up through woodland and over moor to experience the magical dawn chorus.
We will follow a route from the car parking area (follow signs to kennels, taking the track bearing to the right) through mixed woodland and heathland with outstanding views and diverse habitats. The walk has a 195 foot ascent which is relatively easy on wide, flat and firm tracks.
Bring a 10x hand lens if you have one. Some will be provided. A small basket or container may be useful for collecting a few specimens for identification. You may like to bring some water and snacks. Wear clothing suitable for the forecast and footwear suitable for muddy/rough ground. It can be exposed on the common.
Not suitable for dogs.
This walk is free, however any donations are gratefully received and go towards the running of the Brecon Local Group. Excess funds are donated to specific Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales conservation projects chosen by brecon Local Group members at the AGM.
Follow signs from Bwlch to the Buckland Kennels where is space to park several cars in the turning area before the kennels.
