  • Speaker: Ceri Leigh will be showing photographs from her book 'Life on the Floodplain – A Garden Wildlife Diary’.

‘An intimate glimpse into one woman’s world, from winter to spring, summer to autumn, through the lens of her camera and written journal, comparable to Dara McAnulty’s ‘Diary of a Young Naturalist’ or Raynor Winn’s ‘The Salt Path’ Whitefox

Ceri was exhibitions manager at the Natural History Museum until an accident on the way home had serious consequences including PTSD which remains an ongoing reality. Ceri returned to Wales with her family and found a coping mechanism in photography of the surrounding landscapes and wildlife and keeping a garden nature diary in her home beside the Usk floodplain in the wider context of the pandemic in 2020. The resulting book and local exhibitions have been celebrated for the gentleness and honesty of the writing, vibrancy of images and an exposition of nature as therapy. We are delighted to have the privilege of inviting an audience to hear from Ceri directly and to learn about how her book came to be and celebrate with Ceri the power of the landscape and the wildlife and flora that inspired her art.

‘I expected to skip through the book, but instead was drawn deeply into the story, which I recommend for everyone who seeks evidence for the mental and physical support that nature gives if we embrace it’. Steve Head, Wildlife Gardening Forum.
