Bluebells at Castle Woods

Castle Woods has some of the best displays of bluebells in the country. In spring, carpets of purple cover the forest floor whilst keen eyes might spot a rare white bluebell amongst them. The best displays can be seen below the stands of beech trees. The shade from the beech trees has prevented the understory developing, allowing the bluebells to flourish. Slow to colonise an area, these displays are a testimony to how long these woods have been here.
