Ynglŷn â'r digwyddiad

We're very fortunate to welcome Bethan who will first introduce us to the amazing bats of Wales from 8.15pm and then at 9pm lead us on a bat walk to watch and listen to echolocating bats as they hunt in the woodland.

The Swansea Bay Stars of the Night project (part of Natur am Byth!) is led by the Bat Conservation Trust and is shining a light on the lesser horseshoe bat. Wales holds 61% of the UK population of this species, many of which call the Gower their home. Bethan is conducting citizen science research into how they navigate from their roosts on the Gower across Swansea city.

Bethan says we’re likely to see common pipistrelle, soprano pipistrelle, possibly long-eared bats, Daubenton’s bats, noctules and “if lucky” (fingers firmly crossed!) lesser horseshoe bats, which are sometimes found in Clyne Valley Woods.

Bat detectors will be provided, to share, but if you have your own, please bring it! Also, bring torches and wear warm clothes and sensible footwear as it may be muddy. Basically, dress for the weather forecast for after 9pm on the day.

Children (under 18s) are welcome but must be accompanied by adults. We ask for a donation of at least £1 per adult towards Trust funds, payable in cash or by card on the evening.
