David Astins and Amanda Love both live on the Pembrokeshire Coast and have close links to the sea, including Amanda’s husband Dai who is part of the Little Haven RNLI team, and David’s partner Lisa being Head of Islands and Marine here at the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.
On Wednesday 3rd August, David and Amanda took on the challenge of swimming around Skomer Island, raising funds for the Trust's vital conservation work on the island.
The swim was over 9000 metres and consisted of three hours of swimming time for David and Amanda, with safety cover from the Skomer Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) team at Natural Resources Wales. As far as David and Amanda know, this swim has never been completed before!
We caught up with David after the swim:
"We couldn't have asked for better conditions, setting out from North Haven it was like a Mill Pond and the water was so clear. There was a bit of a swell from the Garland Stone to the Wick, but pretty smooth after that, and getting around the east end of the Mew Stone proved difficult with a fast moving tide against us."
A huge well done and thank you to David and Amanda, a truly fantastic #WILDFundraiser challenge!
If you want to help safe wildlife and wild spaces in Wales, and have a #WILDFundraiser challenge in mind, then we'd love to hear from you!
