Remembering Our Friend, Keith Noble

We’ve received the sad news of the passing of Keith Noble, a committed conservationist, dedicated volunteer and Trustee.

We are very saddened to hear that Keith Noble died on Saturday 11th January.

Keith became an active member of the Brecknock Wildlife Trust (BWT) when he moved to Brecon in 2007 after retiring from the RSPB. He encouraged the Trust to hold events to connect people with the wildlife around them. He was a trustee for BWT for six years and served a period as Chair. He continued his support when BWT became part of The Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales. He was was a Director of the local record centre, the Biodiversity Information Service for Powys and Bannau Brycheniog.

A keen watcher of wildlife and a talented photographer, Keith recorded his observations at his home or as he wandered around Brecon and further afield. His key interests were birds and dragonflies although he was adept at identifying many other groups of species. He would share these stunning images regularly to his contacts. He was very generous in allowing them to be used to illustrate magazine articles, on posters or for social media posts.

Keith was always ready to share his extensive knowledge by leading walks or giving talks, illustrated by his photographs, to various groups. Winter Bird Walks at Llangorse Lake became an annual feature with Andrew King. He supported the Brecon Swift Group by recording nest sites and encouraging people to put up swift boxes. As the Brecknock County Recorder for Dragonflies, he was responsible for identifying several species which were new to the county in recent years. He was also the key driving force behind establishing Llangorse Lake as the first Dragonfly Hotspot in Wales.

Our thoughts are with his wife Alison and his family at this time.
