Wildlife Watch is the UK's leading club for young environmentalists, and junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts. Wildlife Watch is made up of a network of local groups reaching across the UK.
'The Brecon Wildlife Watch Club is a joint venture with staff from the WTSWW Brecon office and Y Gaer-museum, art gallery and library to enable children to engage with and learn about the nature and wildlife around them through various activities outside and in.
‘We are all really excited to see how this group will develop. The enthusiasm of the children was infectious’ Pauline Hill, People & Wildlife Officer, WTSWW-Brecknock
The WTSWW 360 virtual reality experiences proved very popular. Also experts and County Recorders, Norman Lowe (moths) and Andrew King (Birds and butterflies), were on hand to answer questions about their subjects. There was lots of interest in the live moths and bird nests. Mini-beast hunts, mini bee hotels, name medallions and other craft activities were available for children to try. The moths were released by the last bug hunt team.
‘I loved today especially seeing the fly under the microscope – Very cool!’ Feedback from child.
The first proper Wildlife Watch Club meeting will be on Wednesday 16th August, 2pm to 3.30pm at Y Gaer, Brecon.
Future meetings will be held on one day each school holiday, with two in the summer break. We are surveying parents to determine which day of the week these will be held going forward.
