In the heart of winter, when nature often seems to slumber, a burst of vibrancy graced our Wildlife Trust Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve in Cilgerran.
Four beautiful Bohemian Waxwings arrived on the 9th January creating a spectacle that delighted both seasoned birdwatchers and casual nature enthusiasts alike.
These photogenic and charming birds, with their distinctive crests and waxy red wingtips, brought a touch of magic to the serene wetlands. Their arrival marked a rare occurrence, as Waxwings are known for their nomadic habits, traveling in search of winter berries and creating memorable moments wherever they land.
As the news spread, the reserve became a hub of activity, with birdwatchers and photographers converging to witness this avian spectacle. The atmosphere buzzed with the click of cameras and the hushed excitement of those fortunate enough to witness these feathered guests up close.
The Waxwings, with their synchronized flights and melodious calls, seemed to dance among the bare branches, turning a cold winter month into a celebration of nature's beauty. Their visit served as a reminder of the interconnectedness of ecosystems, as these birds play a crucial role in dispersing seeds and contributing to the biodiversity of the area.
As the days passed, the Waxwing's continued to grow in numbers with the maximum number reaching seven by the end of the month.
In the wake of this enchanting encounter, our Wildlife Trust Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve stands as a testament to the ever-changing tapestry of the natural world, where each season brings new stories and surprises, and where the presence of even seven waxwings can transform a quiet winter landscape into a vibrant haven for both wildlife and those who appreciate its wonders.
