Spring and summer.About the reserve
The Lucas Reserve is a long meadow sloping northwards down to Burry Pill. Most of the reserve is on a slope made up of boulder clay and is dominated by Bracken/Bramble scrub with Willow, Ash, and Oak developing into secondary woodland.
The northern part of the reserve, which is the lowest point, is level on alluvial sediments, and experiences periodic saline inundations from Burry Pill at high tides. The damp meadow is marked with stands of Yellow Flag and Marsh Mallow, and its junction with the scrub and woodland is marked by a dense stand of Common Reed.
