Nextdoor Nature

Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Nextdoor Nature provided communities with start-up advice and support to help nature on their doorstep, leaving a lasting natural legacy to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The project ran from Summer 2022 - Autumn 2024, working with communities in Swansea to bring people together and give everyone the power to help nature flourish

Every one of us can make a difference to bring back nature and tackle climate change, by taking small actions that add up to big changes. Nextdoor Nature will be encouraged communities to get involved with transformational micro-projects to help nature thrive and make the places where they live, work and visit greener - so that everyone can benefit.

Nextdoor Nature worked with communities in areas of Swansea with less access to greenspaces to give people the skills and opportunity to take ACTION for nature. The core aim was to give local communities the tools to decide on what happens in the project and drive sustainable change in their neighbourhood (and continue to do so once the project ended). Project actions included: enhancing existing local greenspaces, establishing new green corridors in areas of nature deprivation and rewilding school grounds. From individuals to Community Centre's the project worked across Swansea with a range of people.
